
The Surma, sometimes called Suri or Shuri, and live in southwest Omo, close to Kenya and South Sudan. They used to be nomadic pastoralists and were fierce warriors, always lookout for new grazing land. Nowadays most have become subsistence farmers growing maize and sorghum. Bodies are important for Surma. They should be strong and beautiful. Men should be fierce warriors. To strengthen his body, a young man likes to drink cow’s blood. It is supposed to be full of vitamins.
