In Northern Ethiopia, there is a rich volcanic plateau, the Simien Mountains. There massive erosion has created a spectacular landscape with jagged peaks, rocky and green gorges and sharp precipices. Twelve peaks exceed four thousand meters. The Simien Mountains are considered to rival Colorado’s Grand Canyon. They are not only known for the beauty of the landscape but also for their wildlife. The Simien Mountains are home of some extremely rare and threatened species and endemic mammals like, Walia Ibex, Gelada Baboon and Ethiopian or Abyssinian Wolf.
