Bahir Dar located on the southern shore of Lake Tana. Lake Tana is the source of the life giving River of Blue Nile. It is also the largest lake in Ethiopia with 37 islands. On some islands located different Monasteries which are dating back to 14th century. About 30km from Bahir Dar lays Africa’s spectacular waterfalls the Blue Nile Falls which is locally known as Tis Abay ( smoke of the Nile) or Tis Isat (Water that smokes). The 45m deep fall has 400 meters wide.
